By plane  For flights, timetable and fees, direct access to website : http://www.laoairlines.com/

By VIP day bus

No direct link by VIP day bus : compulsory stop in Thakkek or Savannakhet.
Trip duration 15 to 20 hours when taking an ordinary bus.
More comfortable alternatives exist !

Planning:From Vientiane : 20:00 / 20:30 from the south bus station (8 km from the city). Registration 30 minutes before departure.
Arrival at Paksé : 5:30 / 6:00, 2 minutes walking distance to the Hôtel, or 5 minutes in local taxi from the private bus station (km 2), which offers connections to Thailand by International buses.
Compulsory half-way stop in Thakkek, at midnight for about 30 min.Advice :
Keep a pair of socks (the temperature may be quite cold in the bus), why not a sleeping mask and ear plugs as those provided in the planes (you may not appreciate the film or the music played during the 1st part of the trip).
It is recommended that money, passports, credit cards and any valuable items must be tightly secured in ad hoc contents (bags, belts, “bananas”, “holsters”…).
The bus stops half-way in Thakkek, at midnight for about 30 minutes. There is no obligation to get out and visit the basic night market. If you wish to leave the bus to visit the night market, it is recommended that you take with you all valuable stuffs (money, credit card, camera, video, cell phone, …)

By VIP night bus
(toilets, A/C,
reclinable seat, or
couchette, TV.)

We can organize your private trip from (or to) Vientiane (see fees on the “Journeys’ notice”.)
Such an arrangement allows you to visit sites on your way around Thakkek or Savannakhet.
The total distance is 675 km : count 9 hours for a non-stop trip. One night in Thakkek or Savannakhet is recommended.Advice :
The quality of the road is almost correct, but some bridges between Savannakhet and Paksé ask for more attention because of uneven junctions : the car may slightly jump.
After the rainy season, the small holes may have grown and no posts are here to mark them. Watch carefully : a changing in color (red) indicates an absence of tarmac… our drivers know that and you may trust them, they will slow down.
It is highly recommended to avoid travelling at sundown when people and animals go home : no lights on many vehicles (bikes, mopeds, motorbikes, lorries, tractors…) and many people use to sit on the border of the road, totally invisible. After 20:00, the traffic becomes easier since having less vehicles, animals and people on the road.

By night bus

As all Vientiane/Paksé VIP buses stop in Thakkek, you may register in order to get to your destination around 6:00, but do it in advance through the bus companies to ensure your seat or bed will be kept.

Planning:
Departure from Thakkek : normally, once per hour from 07:00 to 14:00.
Arrival in Paksé : about 5 to 8 hours after departure, to the north bus station (7 km north on road 13.) You will then need using local transportation (tuk-tuk) to join the Hôtel down town (about 15 minutes.)Advice :
To avoid if you have no time left and love comfort !
If you use it, use the morning buses. A late arrival may be questionable as to the possibility to find cheap local transportation.

The bus will stop at the border to allow you to proceed to immigration and through the customs.
